Ndali

 

It was In 1999, that Lulu Sturdy inherited a mixed African farm of bananas, coffee, cattle, and alcohol distillation, in Ndali, Uganda. Ndali Estate is a 1000 acre mixed tropical farm, located near the crater lakes and volcanoes of Western Uganda, in the foothills of the Mountains of the Moon. Here Lulu found herself in the midst of a war zone with a farm that was making a staggering loss. After experimenting with numerous crops Lulu set upon vanilla.

 

Eight years on, the farm has become the first and only Fairtrade vanilla producer on the African continent. Serendipity certainly seemed to land Lulu at the right place as she has managed to turn a failing farm into something truly special.

 

 

Ndali produces three products: Vanilla Finest pods, extra strong Vanilla Intense pods and Vanilla Extract Intense. This vanilla is truly some of the best there is and has been highly acclaimed by Hugh Fearnley – Whittingstall who describes it as ‘beautifully supple and bursting with tiny sticky seeds. The scent is rich and intense and the flavour deep, long lasting and absolutely true’. It has to be tasted to be fully appreciated.

 

They are one of the only Fairtrade vanilla pods in the world. Ndali vanilla possesses a magically concentrated flavour all encased within a deep rich pod. The vanilla is naturally cured at high altitudes, where the beans take longer to mature resulting in a more concentrated vanillin content. This is an indication of true quality of the product for the connoisseurs amongst you!
