Robert Chancerelle created the Connétable brand in 1853 in Douarnerez, Brittany. Connétable has been in business for 150 years, making them one of the oldest canneries in the world. They have maintained a tradition of quality by using premium natural ingredients. The turbulent Atlantic coastline produces a distinctive sardine, well known to gourmets due to their distinguishing firm flesh. After six generations, Connétable continues to be a family owned company and all the products are still handmade as they were at the creation of the company. Connétable is now the leader in the French market and is well established in the British market.
The product
We offer 5 ranges of Connétable products: sardines, tuna, mackerel fillets, anchovies and salmon. All of the products are still hand packed to ensure the highest quality. Connétable really do take canned fish to another level.
Why we love it
This is an excellent product made with passion and expertise. Connétable are steeped in history which results in their wealth of expertise and knowledge about canned fish. A limited edition vintage tin is released once a year that is that is highly sought after by connoisseurs, many of whom leave them to mature and turn them twice a year to ensure the flesh remains tender. Unlike alternatives, Connétable clean all of their sardines manually to remove the gut lining that can greatly affect the flavour when canned. This truly is a top quality beautifully packaged product.
